Artist Statement
I am a retired educator and current visual artist that lives and works in Kansas City. My work focuses on
the complexities of the black male experience from a variety of vantage points. I also write for KC Studio
magazine and have produced documentaries (abstractumentaries) on other artists.
I have received a Charlotte Street Visual Artists Award, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, a MacDowell
Residency and, most recently, was an Art Omi Resident.
I taught computer studies in high and middle school for 36 years.
I have earned an A.A. degree in Data Processing, a B.S. degree in Computer Science, and a Master of Arts
in Teaching with an emphasis on Interdisciplinary Studies from Webster University.
